As a member of the KISD Board of Trustees (Board), I shall promote the best interests of the District as a whole and, to that end, shall adhere to the following ethical standards:
 
 
EQUITY IN ATTITUDE
bulletI will be fair, just, and impartial in all my decisions and actions.
bulletI will accord others the respect I wish for myself.
bulletI will encourage expressions of different opinions and listen
with an open mind to others’ ideas.
bulletI will attempt to accept criticism without getting defensive or
angry.
TRUSTWORTHINESS
IN STEWARDSHIP
bulletI will be accountable to the public by representing District
policies, programs, priorities, and progress accurately.
bulletI will be responsive to the community by seeking its involvement
in District affairs and by communicating its priorities and concerns.
bulletI will work to ensure prudent and accountable use of District
resources.
bulletI shall not take individual actions that will compromise the District,
Board or Administration. I recognize that we are only authorized to
take action in an official capacity as a member of the Board as a
whole, at a legally called meeting, or when delegated authority by
the Board as a whole.
bulletI will make no personal promise or take private action that may
compromise my performance or my responsibilities.
bulletI will not represent to anyone that I, as an individual, have any
authority to act on behalf of the Board, the District, or the
Administration, unless expressly authorized by the Board to do so.
HONOR IN CONDUCT
 
 
bulletI will tell the truth.
bulletI will share my views while working for consensus.
bulletI will follow Board policy and procedures and will abide by and
respect the decisions of the Board as a whole.
bulletI will base my decisions on fact rather than supposition, opinion,
or public favor.
bulletI shall channel all requests for information through the Board
President or Superintendent.
bulletI shall not try to solve complaints or grievances individually,
except that I may counsel patrons or employees as to the correct
procedure to be followed for resolution of complaints or grievances.

bulletI will refuse to surrender judgment to any individual or group at the
at the expense of the District as a whole.
bulletI will consistently uphold all applicable laws, rules, policies, and
governance procedures.
bulletI will not disclose information that is confidential by law or that
will needlessly harm the District if disclosed.
COMMITMENT TO
SERVICE
 
bulletI will focus my attention on fulfilling the Board’s responsibilities of
goal setting, policymaking, and evaluation.
bulletI will avoid personal involvement in activities the Board has
delegated to the Superintendent. I will allow the Administration to
decide on “how” policy should be implemented and not attempt
to micromanage the affairs of the District.
bulletI will not attempt to exert pressure or influence on staff in order
to coerce them into making particular recommendations or
decisions.
bulletI will seek continuing education that will enhance my ability to
fulfill my duties effectively.
bulletI will attend all regularly scheduled Board meetings and notify
the Board President or Superintendent if I am going to be absent
in addition, I will come to the Board meetings prepared and become
informed on issues to be considered at those meetings.
STUDENT-CENTERED FOCUS
bulletI will be continuously guided by what is best for the educational
welfare of all students in the District regardless of ability,
race, creed, ethnicity, sex, or social standing.
